Nobody saw this coming

Wow! That's really all that can be said after a night of surprise moves and trades. It started with the Raiders taking Rolando McClain, then the Buffalo Bills drafted C.J. Spiller, and the shocker of the first round was Tyson Alualu at pick #10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There were a few head scratchers in the first round that really made you question the teams. The list of odd moves includes: Both of the Broncos draft picks, passing up on Jimmy Clausen and Dez Bryant to get Tim Tebow and DeMaryius Thomas. The Patriots, Jets, and Saints all adding an unnecessary Cornerback to their secondary in the first round. My personal biggest surprise was the Miami Dolphins selecting Jared Odrick. The Dolphins defensive ends have been the strong point of their defense (Kendall Langford, Randy Starks, Philip Merling) so this pick confuses me a little bit. Miami could've gone a different direction and filled a huge need by selecting the "rush" Outside Linebacker Jerry Hughes from TCU or Sergio Kindle out of Texas.
The Dolphins have the opportunity to grab one of these best available players:

-Jimmy Clausen-QB/Notre Dame
-Sergio Kindle-OLB/Texas
-Everson Griffen-OLB/USC
-Taylor Mays-S/USC
-Golden Tate-WR/Notre Dame
-Terrence Cody-NT/Alabama
-Linval Joseph-NT/ECU

If you missed it, this is how the night shaped up:

NFL Mock Draft: Part XV

1 - STL: Bradford, Sam - QB - Oklahoma
After releasing Marc Bulger, this pick is now a lock, as are the first 4 picks.
2 - DET: Suh, Ndamukong - DT - Nebraska
Jim Schwartz know the importance of having a great DT after coaching Haynesworth in Tennessee. Suh is the best player in the draft and the Lions will not pass up on him.
3 - TB: McCoy, Gerald - DT - Oklahoma
He's not Ndamukong Suh, but he's a good consolation prize for the up and coming, young Buccaneers.
4 - WAS: Okung, Russell - T - Oklahoma St.
The best O-Line prospect who will give the Redskins some much needed improvement on their weak line.
5 - KC: Bulaga, Bryan - T - Iowa
Scott Pioli has come out on record saying he doesn't like picking Safety's in the top of the draft because of their lack of longevity.
6 - SEA: Spiller, C.J. - RB - Clemson
He is an explosive playmaker who helps out in the running and passing game with his speed and athleticism.
7 - CLE: Berry, Eric - FS - Tennessee
A dream scenario for the Browns as he will help their secondary by leaps and bounds.
8 - OAK: Williams, Trent - T - Oklahoma
He's an underrated player that would be the "immediate starter" that the Raiders want. He also fits the bill that Al Davis loves, a 300lb guy that can run a 4.8 40.
9 - BUF: Clausen, Jimmy - QB - Notre Dame
This would be the dream scenario for Buffalo. It looks like they'll get their man; after the McNabb trade and the Seahawks acquiring Whitehurst, Clausen will fall down the draft baords. The biggest roadblock for the Bills on draft day are the Raiders at 8 or the Jaguars possibly trading up.
10 - JAX: Morgan, Derrick - DE - Georgia Tech
The best pure pass rusher in the draft. Yes, they did add Aaron Kampman, but he is coming off a serious injury, and their Defense ranked last in sacks last year.
11 - DEN: Mcclain, Rolando - ILB - Alabama
They're not going to go after Dez Bryant after getting rid of their "diva" receiver. Rolando McClain fits the style and the mold of this new Broncos team.
12 - MIA: Thomas, Earl - SS - Texas
The Dolphins have met with him 3 times so far and are in love with him. They could take Jason Pierre-Paul, but they prefer players with experience and production.
13 - SF: Haden, Joe - CB - Florida
They would be getting the top Corner in the draft at the 13th pick; this is a steal.
14 - SEA: Bryant, Dez - WR - Oklahoma St.
After being in the running for Brandon Marshall, it's obvious that the Seahawks are looking for a WR to pair with TJ. He would be a great weapon to get Hasselbeck back on track and groom Whitehurst. They may look at Charles Brown here or a DE like Pierre-Paul.
15 - NYG: Williams, Dan - DT - Tennessee
He's a big DT that could be a Nose. However, he'll be plugged right into the Giants D-Line and help the run defense.
16 - TEN: Pierre-Paul, Jason - DE - South Florida
Not too many years ago the Titans drafted another defensive end known as "the freak" worked out pretty well. plus it's not that much of a reach to get him here at 16.
17 - SF: Davis, Anthony - T - Rutgers
A huge blocker who could fill in perfectly at the Right Tackle spot for the niners. His stock has fallen due to concerns about his weight and work ethic.
18 - PIT: Iupati, Mike - OG - Idaho
A huge blocker that will help the Steelers lack luster running game, and keep Big Ben on his feet.
19 - ATL: Graham, Brandon - OLB - Michigan
Graham is projected as a 3-4 OLB but has always played the 4-3 DE spot. He'll get them plenty of sacks along the D-line. He plays very similar to John Abraham.
20 - HOU: Wilson, Kyle - CB - Boise St.
After losing Dunta Robinson to the Falcons, the Texans are desperate for a starting corner.
21 - CIN: Gresham, Jermaine - TE - Oklahoma
He would be a great target for Palmer in the middle of the field. The Bengals have needed a TE for years now.
22 - NE: Kindle, Sergio - OLB - Texas
The prototype 3-4 OLB who will be a perfect fit in the Pats Defense.
23 - GB: Pouncey, Maurkice - C - Florida
A very versatile and smart blocker who can start at Guard or Center immediately.
24 - PHI: Mays, Taylor - FS - USC
The Eagles did sign Marlin Jackson who says he will be moving to Safety, but why change his position? With Mays they get a hard-hitting safety that they no longer have since losing Brian Dawkins. According to a few sources they have been looking to trade up to get Eric Berry or stay put and get Mays.
25 - BAL: McCourty, Devin - CB - Rutgers
McCourty is the college teammate of Ravens star Running Back ray Rice and he has been talking the ear off of the Ravens front office about this guy. They had an impressive showing at his pro day, and could definitely use his services as a starting corner.
26 - ARI: Hughes, Jerry - DE - TCU
A pass rushing force that can start opposite Joey Porter and be a solid building block in their defense.
27 - DAL: Brown, Charles - T - USC
He's a little undersized as a left tackle, but he is heralded for his fantastic footwork and discipline on the line.
28 - SD: Mathews, Ryan - RB - Fresno St.
Mathews has a great blend of size and speed a la LaDanian Tomlinson. The perfect replacement.
29 - NYJ: Odrick, Jared - DT - Penn State
He would be the perfect fit at the 3-4 DE spot and would be a starter immediately.
30 - MIN: Price, Brian - DT - UCLA
They filled their need at CB by signing Lito Shepard. Price is a strong DT that can replace Pat Williams.
31 - IND: Saffold, Rodger - OT - Indiana
A hometown prospect who has size, speed, strength, and great technique. He has been quickly climbing up draft boards and I would not be surprised at all if the Colts take him over Bruce Campbell. They need Offensive Line and it would be crazy to think they would go any other direction here.
32 - NO: Weatherspoon, Sean - OLB - Missouri
Weatherspoon is an excellent value at #32, he could go as high as #15 to the Giants. He fits their scheme perfect and would be an immediate starter from day one.

Out of the 1st Round:
-Everson Griffen-DE/USC
-Kareem Jackson-CB/Alabama
-DeMaryius Thomas-WR/Georgia Tech
-Bruce Campbell-OT/Maryland
-Daryl Washington -OLB/TCU
-Terrence Cody-NT/Alabama
-Carlos Dunlap-DE/Florida
-Tim Tebow-QB/Florida
-Arrelious Benn-WR/Illinois
-Golden Tate-WR/Notre Dame
-Colt McCoy-QB/Texas
-Jahvid Best-RB/California

NFL Mock Draft: Part XIV

After the Dolphins trade for Brandon Marshall, the first round gets shaken up a little bit.

6 - SEA: Williams, Trent - T - Oklahoma
Williams is a fast athletic tackle that fits their zone blocking scheme in Seattle.
7 - CLE: Berry, Eric - FS - Tennessee
A dream scenario for the Browns as he will help their secondary by leaps and bounds.
8 - OAK: Clausen, Jimmy - QB - Notre Dame
The Raiders were in the hunt for Donovan McNabb which means they realize how bad JaMarcus Russell is and they want to find a franchise QB.
9 - BUF: Davis, Anthony - T - Rutgers
The Bills need a lot of help on the O-Line.
10 - JAX: Morgan, Derrick - DE - Georgia Tech
The best pure pass rusher in the draft. Yes, they did add Aaron Kampman, but he is coming off a serious injury, and their Defense ranked last in sacks last year.
11 - DEN: Bryant, Dez - WR - Oklahoma St.
A true #1 Wideout that can replace Brandon Marshall.
12 - MIA: Thomas, Earl - SS - Texas
Thomas is a a ball-hawking safety that just flat out makes plays in the secondary. He would be a great addition to the Miami Defense. Watch for this pick to be traded so that Miami can possibly pick up Brandon Graham or Sergio Kindle later in round 1 and get a safety in round 2.
13 - SF: Haden, Joe - CB - Florida
Haden is the best shutdown corner in the draft and would be a steal at this point, so the Niners would love to have him.
14 - SEA: Pierre-Paul, Jason - DE - South Florida
Not alot of people are in love with JPP "potential" but he would be a good selection at this point especially after the loss of Patrick Kerney.
15 - NYG: Mcclain, Rolando - ILB - Alabama
A guy that has top 5 talent and would be the biggest steal of the draft for the Giants at the #15 spot.
16 - TEN: Wilson, Kyle - CB - Boise St.
They could use a starting corner opposite Cortland Finnegan, and Wilson is the type of player that the Titans organization looks to draft; athletic, versatile, productive, and a little under-valued.
17 - SF: Spiller, C.J. - RB - Clemson
Frank Gore has already said he really doesn't want the Niners to get Spiller in the draft, but Mike Singletary is a team first guy and knows that he needs to get playmakers on his team. There's really no depth behind Gore and it would give Alex Smith another weapon in the passing game.
18 - PIT: Pouncey, Maurkice - C - Florida
A smart, versatile blocker that will help the Steelers lack luster running game and keep Big Ben on his feet.
19 - ATL: Graham, Brandon - OLB - Michigan
Graham is projected as a 3-4 OLB but has always played the 4-3 DE spot. He'll get them plenty of sacks along the D-line.
20 - HOU: Williams, Dan - DT - Tennessee
At one point alot of people had put Brian Price at the pick here; then he slid down and Williams climbed up. They would love a guy like Kyle Wilson here but with him gone, they'll address their huge need at DT.
21 - CIN: Mays, Taylor - FS - USC
They've drafted two players out of USC early in the draft the past 2 years and won't mind going back to the pool of talent coming out of Souther Cal.
22 - NE: Gresham, Jermaine - TE - Oklahoma
They have invested 1st round picks in TE's in the past. (i.e. Ben Watson, Daniel Graham)
23 - GB: Iupati, Mike - OG - Idaho
Iupati is a great fit along their O-Line in Green Bay. He would be an immediate starter at Guard, and would help their O-line right from the start.
24 - PHI: Kindle, Sergio - OLB - Texas
They released Will Weatherspoon and have no great players at the linebacker spot.
26 - ARI: Griffen, Everson - DE - USC
Griffen is a great talent for hem to find at 26, and he would be a very good long-term answer for them in the pass rush game. Joey Porter is good on one side, but he's also getting up there in years.
27 - DAL: Brown, Charles - T - USC
Brown is a former TE that converted to Tackle which means he has the speed and footwork. He's very smart and rarely gets penalized, but the knock on him will be his upper body strength as a starting Tackle.
30 - MIN: Jackson, Kareem - CB - Alabama
A corner who plays more physical than his size would suggest. He would be an immediate starter and fill the Vikings top need. Watch for them to take a long look at Brian Price here to replace Pat Williams.
A fantastic pick up for the Saints. He's a perfect fit in their linebacking corps, and would be a great steal at #32.
